I can't believe that we have almost lived in Arizona for 4 weeks! I am surprised by how fast the time has gone by and how quickly we have adjusted to feeling like this is home. The peace we feel here can only come from the Lord and we are so thankful for it. There are definitely times when we really miss SC, especially on the weekends. I miss eating wings & cookie dough while the boys (and Danielle) watch SEC football. I miss our Chick Fil A dates (we haven't been since we've gotten here), I miss sitting on the couch with a cup of tea and a good friend, and I miss awesome talks about the Bible and life with good friends who know me and know our family. I know that God will provide friends like that for us here, it will just take some time to build up relationships.
There are parks and playgrounds here on every corner, literally. Even though it is November it has been hot here, which is the norm for the desert I guess. It has been in the 80's & 90's almost every day, but gets chilly at night. The sun is really strong, which means that we are still using plenty of sunscreen! We are expecting a cold front this weekend though which will be a nice little break.
I think that Marcus is going through a growth spurt because I can not keep him full of food! Of course he is still refusing to eat meat (except CFA nuggets) so our diet has changed quite a bit. I got tired of making one meatless dinner for him and a dinner for us, so thanks to Pinterest we have cut a lot of meat out of our diets as well, and I honestly don't really miss it!
Last night I went to an event called Phoenix One with a friend of mine from college (we met while on summer project together in New Zealand and she moved here a couple of weeks ago, yes there is a God). One of the things that we have noticed while church hunting is that there are a LOT of old people who go to church but hardly any younger people our age with young kids. Phoenix One is an organization that was started by local churches to attempt to draw the younger crowd in and get them plugged into a church. They meet on Tuesday nights every couple of weeks and have worship (led by a local worship team) and a speaker (brought in from all over, Frances Chan came once). Last night was just what my soul needed! It was so refreshing and really encouraging. The worship was awesome and God used the speaker to show me some things in my life that I need to be working on. We will hopefully be meeting with someone from the organization soon so they can help us find a church that would be a good fit. As we were walking in I felt like I was in college again going to a Crusade meeting. People were excited to be there, excited to see their friends and share in this journey together. If you want to learn more about it here is the website: www.phx1.org You can also download their sermons or sign up to follow them on podcasts.
Playing at our favorite park, Marcus loves all the big slides and of course has no fear!
Marcus was a Yankee baseball player for Halloween. All of the old people thought he was a football player, they are obviously not very bright or extremely blind.
Please be praying that we continue to adjust to life here and that God will connect us with an awesome church and community!
